Today started like any other, waking up at eleven, eating breakfast/lunch and lounging until we needed to head out to catch our flight home at 7:30pm. No problem.
So since we had so much time we decided to see some sites. On the way to the airport there is a place called Chaco Canyon which everyone says is a great place to get some pictures. We left early enough to get there and check it out and continue on to the airport in Albuquerque. We were golden.
Fifteen miles from the entrance to the canyon, the pavement ends and it’s dirt roads the rest of the way. About ten miles on the dirt roads and the van we were in shuts off. So we calmly get out and start checking things out. Didn’t overheat, still has gas, we eventually figure something must have jiggled loose from the shaking on the dirt road and somehow fuel wasn’t getting to the engine. So our driver called a friend with a car big enough for the 5 of us and our stuff. But he wasn’t close. So we were hanging out in the desert heat for nearly 3 hours before he showed up at about 6:30 to get us. But our flight was in an hour and we were about 150 miles from the airport. This fight was no longer going to happen.
We eventually made it to Albuquerque a couple hours later to find the ticketing desk at the airport closed until 4am. So we were able to get a rental car and book a couple rooms at the closest Motel 6. Tomorrow we will get to the Airport at 4am and hope to get on the first flight in the morning back to LA.
