New Mexico 2, Day 1

Posted Ryan Christafari, New Mexico

It’s been a long day! Started at 6 this morning driving to LAX for our 9 o’clock flight to Albuquerque. It was a nice surprise this morning to find that the A/C in my car started working (even though it wasn’t necessary). We all made it to the airport on time, and since this is a short trip we didn’t need to check any luggage other than merch bags and a couple pieces of equipment. It’s nice to travel light. The flight was fine, just under 2 hours on a little 30 seater, I was only awake for the drink service and landing.

Once in Albuquerque we were picked up by the promoters and taken to lunch at Golden Corral, which was just as good as last time we ate there. Then we had an hour and a half drive to Laguna, NM for our show. But since we had time, we were able to take a quick nap at the church before sound checking at the venue down the street.

The sound system could be described as interesting at best, 2 little speakers that couldn’t handle our volume, not enough mics, or amps, and no sound guy, however I did have the same keyboard that I played last time! …with no velocity sensitivity, quite a rare thing. A few times during the show the speakers stopped making sound and we just had to make do until they started working again, but we still had a good time and it seemed as though the audience did too!

The show ended when the rain started coming down. Fortunately my personal bag was close by and while playing I managed to get a couple hand towels and my jacket out to cover up my laptop and keyboard and finish the last two songs without being able to see the keys or anything happening on my laptop, I’m just a pro like that. Then we quickly packed up, headed back to the church for dinner, then started our 3 hour drive to Farmington. It’s 11:30 and we still have 2 hours to go, it’s been a long day.

Also, I checked my camera battery before leaving and it was full. But for some reason it’s dead now and I didn’t bring the charger, so no pictures. :(
