Today was one of the few times I’ve ever missed breakfast on tour. I slept in late because I accidentally set my alarm for PM and the motorized shades on the window cut out all late, even waking up at 11am it was still pitch black in the room.
No worries though, for this festival we were within walking distance of the stage from the boarding school, and that was where all the food was being served so after a bit we all walked over for an…interesting…lunch. There were all sorts of fish for lunch, none of which appealed to me (though no fish do) and even the people that liked eating fish were having a hard time for once. Eventually, though, the chicken came out and we were all happy once again. Well, mostly. Me and Dannie (the trombone player) and Diet Coke drinkers and for some reason, our promoters did not see the need to have any sugar free drinks at the meals, so me and Dannie took a quick walk around the block and found a grocery store and got our own drinks, we really like our Diet Coke.
We had the afternoon free until we needed to be at the stage for sound check so we walked around the town and checked some things out, and it was your typical beautiful little French town.
We returned to the boarding school for a quick nap and shower and headed across the river to the show. There were a couple other bands playing, one of which was from England and it was nice talking to some people who’s native language was English.
The stage from across the river.
We had a blast at the show and our sound guy did a fantastic job as always. This show was one of the few where we received everything that was requested on our rider, the right drum set, the right keyboards, the right guitar amps, etc. And that makes a huge difference. Everything is just easier when we already know how to use it. More venues need to pay attention to the rider.
Clouds were rolling in throughout the day and just as we had finished packing up after the show it started to rain a bit, perfect timing. We headed back across the river and went to sleep.
