So, as per the trend of the last few days, we arrived at the hotel in Atlanta in the early morning and crashed. We then went to the venue around noon and unloaded and started setting up while Ethan went to do a radio show. We managed to set up in around 20 minutes and were hoping to do a quick line check, but when we were done setting up our gear, the sound crew hadn’t even started. They even all managed to disappear while we were setting up. So we called a cab and left knowing it was going to take a long time for them to get ready.
We grabbed some lunch at Chik Fil-A and went and napped back at the hotel for a few hours. We then took a cab back to find that this exemplary crew was still… not even close to ready.
After a little bit of rehearsal time and green room lounging, they were finally prepared for us. We had another choir with us for this show and they were the best choir yet.
The crowd had a good time at the show and Ethan did a great job, but for some reason, the sound girl thought it was a good idea to mute the monitors and keyboards while me and E-man weren’t on stage. Now, I can understand muting monitors to cut stage noise, even though the only thing on stage was a piano and one vocal mic. But, muting the keyboards? Really? Is that to prevent feedback? Or to cut a buzz from a bad ground? That just isn’t necessary. This wouldn’t have been an issue except that my keyboards and monitor were muted for nearly all of the last song. I was playing the whole song and staring back at the booth, and she finally un-muted be for the last 3 chords of the song… That and she couldn’t figure out how to give me more of my bottom keyboard in my monitor, I sure did have plenty of my top keyboard by the end of the show, though.
Fortunately at the venue they had a laundry machine, so I was able to get my clothes cleaned (for free!) which should get me through the end of the tour.
We spent one more night in Atlanta and left early the next morning to head down to Orlando. We stopped for a delicious lunch at Cracker barrel and few hours and stops later we pulled into the Westgate Vacation Villas in Orlando. This place is like a large comfortable prison. The property is gigantic and it’s a ten minute walk just to get to the small market they have here. It’s about 15-20 minutes just to get off the property, then about half mile to get to any shops/restaurants. It could be worse though. We’ve had plenty of lounge time and 4 more days off before the next show.
Looks like Tuesday we’ll get to go to Walt Disney World! I’m excited for that, and there will be plenty of pictures coming.
