Alright, another multi-day update.
So, after leaving Fort Wayne, Indiana we headed up to Detroit. Well, a suburb of Detroit called Novi. We stayed at a Hampton Inn and this was the first time on the tour that it was cold. It was below 40º, which wasn’t too bad, but the wind chill made it much worse. But still, we managed to layer up and take the hotel shuttle to the nearby Twelve Oaks Mall to do a little shopping and find some dinner.
We stopped by Fossil and I found a new watch that I liked and bought and then we grabbed dinner in the food court at Quizno’s and returned to the hotel to sleep. The next day was show day, we headed over to the Royal Oak theater to set up and sound check. After doing that we headed across the street to Sangria, an odd Spanish/Italian restaurant that was delicious. Our host (the owner of the restaurant) took us upstairs to show us the ice bar, a bar like any other, except it was cooled to 16º, quite impressive, wish I had taken pictures…
After the show, Eman and myself walked around a bit and found a place called Little Brothers Burgers, they had amazing sliders (which were gigantic for sliders) and I proceeded to eat 5 with fries. Unfortunately this place isn’t a chain, so my only hope of getting it again is to go back to Detroit. And I recommend it to anyone that does, Little Brothers Burgers.
A while later, our late night ended and we returned to the hotel.
Saturday was a day off. Ethan had some appearances to make that we weren’t needed at so we slept in and then went back to the mall. This time at the Banana Republic I found a great jacket on sale, but decided not to get it. After wandering aimlessly around the mall for a while we went back to the hotel and decided to order dinner from a local delivering restaurant called Eddie’s, and it was quite delicious, I got a couple hot dogs and a lemonade.
Sunday we got up around 9am and started our drive to Philadelphia. Well, a suburb of Philly: Glenside. We got in pretty late, so there weren’t many options when it came to dinner, but fortunately right next to the hotel was a place called Brick House Tavern & Tap which was fantastic. Upon entering we quickly noticed a series of flat panel TVs with recliners in front of them. And yes, we ate our dinner in recliners watching the end of the NBA All-Star game. For dinner, I ate chicken and waffles! Which came close enough to the famous Roscoe’s Chicken and Waffles we have back home.
The next morning, we took a cab to the nearby mall and while there, I checked out the sale section of the Banana Republic on a whim and found the same jacket that I didn’t get in Detroit and scored a pretty amazing deal on it, too. Retail price: $225, Sale price: $149.97, this is what it would’ve cost in Detroit, then an employee told me that as of that day, anything ending in .97 is half price! Half price: $74.99, 25% reduction from President’s Day sale: $56.23, and there are no clothing tax in PA. Like I said, amazing deal.
The Philadelphia show was a lot of fun for me and Eman because the crew was great and catering had delicious homemade food for us, we also had help from a couple special guests: Greg and Teresa. Greg was an online contest winner which yielded for him the opportunity to sing with Ethan (and, therefore us), and his song of choice was ‘Baby’ by Justin Bieber… I’ll admit that we did have fun playing that song. Teresa is the current Miss America (just crowned a few weeks ago), she is a big supporter of a charity that Ethan also is, Children’s Miracle Network, which is why she joined us on stage. Her talent is playing piano so she played a song by herself and also joined in on ‘We Are The World’ with us.
Me with Miss America and my sweet new jacket.
After the show, we took off directly to New York City driving all night. I’ll catch you up on NYC and North Carolina tomorrow.
