Today was the first day of the tour with Ethan Bortnick, the 9 year old piano prodigy. The day started very early arriving at LAX at 4:30am for our 6 o’clock flight to Chicago. Everything went well checking in and getting to the plane and the 4 hour flight went very quickly for me as I slept about 3 and a half hours. Once we landed at O’Hare we gathered our bags and took a shuttle to a hotel to meet up with the tour bus. We are spending this tour on the ridiculous Gibson tour bus.
I’ll post interior pictures later, but there are guitars everywhere and drums for light fixtures and small amps strewn about.
Once we all got on the bus we headed off to Van Wert, OH where the first show will be tomorrow. The drive was 5 hours and we managed to pass the time by watching movies on the (sometimes spotty) satellite TV and fortunately we have DVD players and wi-fi onboard.
We stopped for lunch at a midwest chain called Portillo’s which made some excellent hot dogs.
After a few more hours we arrived at the hotel, dropped off our stuff and headed to the nearby Wal-mart for a few things and then Sonic for dinner (which was my first time eating there) and it was delicious.
Now we lounging in the hotel and Ethan and his parents finally made it here and we greeted them and are preparing for the first show tomorrow night.
