Our second (and final) day in this wonderful place was fantastic and I’m so sad to be leaving. The day started nice and early at 7am to be at the church Glad Tidings (the first Assembly of God church in Hawaii) for the first service at 8 o’clock. Today they let us run the service which was fun, they played 2 worship songs at the beginning and then turned it over to us. At both service we played a couple songs and then Mark spoke and we finished with a song. This was my first experience with Christafari in a church service setting and it was a lot of fun. Throughout the morning at the church we were continually bombarded with wonderful food, whether it was homemade cookies or fresh fruit, we were eating all morning. So, naturally, after church we had lunch.
We stopped by the hotel before heading off to picnic with the church folk. We were going to eat at a magical place called ‘Coconut Island’, a small island a few hundred feet from the beach near the hotel. So we walked over and across the bridge leading to it and set up for a good time. There was tons of food brought, everything from hot dogs to fish and even Taco Bell and Subway. People also brought some water toys, a couple kayaks and some paddle boards. I did not go out on any of the toys, I forgot my sunscreen (the one tour we actually spent time outside), so I was trying to keep to the shade and still managed to burn…
After a couple hours we headed back to the hotel and got cleaned up for sound check. The church we played at tonight was called Sure Foundation and it was in the mall, that’s right, IN the mall. On the Macy’s side, across from the IHOP. So, we showed up and blew through sound check, which is always nice and then headed to the green room to be greeted with more food. All sorts of wonderful things, lychee, grapes, steamed rice, several meats, but best of all was dessert: some sort of triple chocolate brownie item made by one of the locals who makes it for some fancy restaurant. It changed my relationship with chocolate. After much weight gain we headed back to the stage and played a great show, everything went well except for my keyboards wanting to slide off the keyboard stand. Fortunately they didn’t fall, but I kept having to stop myself to push them back into place.
After our final show, we ate more food and then hung out with the host church people for a while (great people) and then headed back to the hotel, where I am now. It’s our last night in Hawaii (except for the few people smart enough to stay a few more days) and we get a decent nights sleep tonight before our travel back home!
I’ll post some pictures once I get there and can hook up my camera…
