Today was our first day in Hawaii and it has been a long one. It started when I left the house at 4am this morning and headed to LAX for an 8 o’clock flight. We landed, rather roughly, at around 11am Hawaii time and got some fantastic food at Sam Choy’s in Honolulu. I had French toast, scrambled eggs and steamed rice. Then we went and checked into the hotel. Once settled I took a stroll to the beach (which is only a couple blocks away) and since I forgot my sunscreen, I dipped my feet in the water and walked back to the hotel. After about an hour lounging in the hotel it was time for sound check (which went swimmingly and quick) and then ate some great jamaican jerk chicken we picked up from a dude in a truck near the venue. We then went back to the hotel and grabbed an hour or two of sleep and then went back to the Pipeline Cafe to play our set starting at midnight. The set went great except that one of the keyboards they provided had a broken pitch wheel and some of my sounds were coming out about 10 cents flat…. made it fun and interesting! After the show (around 2am) we had some amazing homemade fried chicken and salad and filled our bellies before heading back to the hotel (where I am now) and getting into bed at 3:40am, and in a few hours we gotta get up and catch a plane to the big island for our show tomorrow!
