Sorry all for taking so long to update again, but we’ve just been real busy down here in beautiful Buenos Aires. Shows every night and during the day we’ve been filming the next music video for the song ‘Taking in the Son’, which is ironic since it’s been about 50º here every day (sometimes colder).
After our show for 30,000 people in Betim, Brazil we travelled over to Americana and played a show for a couple thousand people in a church where all the walls were painted bright green (regrettably, I did not get any pictures of it). The most awkward part of that was the “fish tank” green room, we were hanging out in a tiny room with a big window in it right by the main foot traffic area and everyone walking by was looking in on us, and it was the only room in the place that wasn’t green.
Next was a show at the church Bola de Neve (which is a surf and skate church) where we had several keyboard issues. The first keyboard they provided they didn’t have the power supply to, then the next keyboard only had USB MIDI out and no 5-pin MIDI out and I didn’t have any extra USB ports on my computer to make it work. So they eventually bought the first keyboard back and found the power supply to it, it was quite an ordeal. And I don’t know how many times I’ve had to explain to people (who don’t speak english, mind you) that I don’t need to plug the keyboards into the direct boxes, they are only acting as MIDI controllers connected to the laptop and I’m sending the laptop audio to the board.
And in the midst of all the shows, we had to film my part in the video (with the horn players) which involved a bus full of people, a bike and a boy with a chicken (which you’ll see it all when the video is done).
On Wednesday we flew to Argentina and had a wonderful free day. We walked around town and did a little shopping since it was much colder than anyone expected (even all the Argentinians are saying this is an especially cold winter), so we had to purchase some extra layers. Our first show was at a Christian school in Buenos Aires that had an absolutely brutal 6 hour sound check. Everything that could’ve gone wrong, did. Everyone was on edge and everything was moving painfully slow. But the show itself went great and it was a lot of fun.
Our next show was at an ex-night club turned church, and from the layout and all the mirrors everywhere it was obvious that it used to be a night club. It was freezing cold there and I felt very sorry for Tyrone who had to film his part in the music video outside. The venue fed us with some fantastic barbecued meats and heated our green room with a small jet engine. The show went well and I actually took my jacket off when it started to heat up a couple songs in.
The most recent show (the one we just got back from) was at a very odd church with a strange 2 story layout and an incredible steep audience seating area (yes, I realize I should’ve taken more pictures). We went on after Kyosko (an Argentinian band) and they were great. After a few songs, the venue staff had to clear out some people in front of the stage because we were on the second floor and “they were afraid it would collapse”! Fortunately, it didn’t.
Now, it’s 3:40am and we have to get up IN AN HOUR to fly south to somewhere even colder. I don’t know where we’re going, but I’ll be sure to let you all know how it goes.
