Well, we’ve had two show now, last night was in Tampa, tonight was in Naples. It has been so much fun playing with this great band!
Quit update to this point:
Here is what LAX looks like at 3:30am…
After the rest of the band showed up we were able to get going, everything in the airport was smooth sailing and both flights went great (LAX to Dallas and Dallas to Tampa).
In LAX they have this:
Burger King + Starbucks, pretty weird, but what you don’t see is the other Starbucks 400 feet to the left… and this is IN the airport!
Shortly after arriving in Tampa we had our (my) first show. And it went great, the crowd loved us and everything went fantastically and the tacos following the show was delicious and enormous. The weird part that I haven’t gotten used to is signing autographs after the shows. In just the first two nights, I’ve already signed a shoe, a hat, and several shirts and CDs and posters. This is something I didn’t prepare for and I’m still trying to figure my own autograph out.
Trying to load all the luggage and the merch bags and the 9 people in one 15 passenger van was an adventure. Here’s a poor quality picture of other people managing the situation!
After an early morning today and a long drive to Naples, we had our second show. This church was full of wonderful and friendly people (such seems to be the case in this state), and the show went well. There were some technical difficulties, as we overloaded the amps (?) and the main speakers/monitors all went out and we were left with drums and unamplified voices. But the song went on and the issue was resolved before the song ended. And in the midst of it all broke out a dance competition and extended drum solo, and after that I unplugged this here computer (to protect it in the event of unstable power happenings) and did the rest of the show on battery power (which was fortunately full).
And after a lovely dinner at IHOP, and a sit in the jacuzzi with Obie, it’s time to call it a night. Thanks for reading, there will be more.
